FUTURITY
Due to a variety of circumstances, the Morgan Horse Club of Washington State phased out the MHCWS Futurity program in 2010. The program was initiated in 1977 and at that time almost all the members in the club were breeding Morgan foals. Over the following 34 years, it was the oldest active Morgan Horse Futurity west of the Mississippi River. At the height of the program there were 23 graduating two-year-olds. Times changed and so did breeding. Futurity nominations gradually diminished over the last several years, therefore it was decided to phase out the Futurity program as it was currently designed and 2010 was the programs last year of Futurity competition.
MATURITY – UPDATE
All Futurity graduates were eligible for the ongoing MHCWS Maturity & Breeder Awards Program, which has now ended after the last year of competition in 2016.
The Maturity and Breeder Awards Program was initiated in 1987 by the Morgan Horse Club of Washington State, Inc. and designed to reward the ongoing show careers of the Futurity graduates. It allowed all graduates from 1979 forward to enter and compete for additional awards. The program was supported solely by participant’s nomination fees. Membership in the Morgan Horse Club of Washington State, Inc. was not required for participation. The program was administered by the Maturity Committee which consisted of appointed club members.
Due to the age of the program, the Club decided to end it and consider other options for breed promotion.
